Information on those serving in the British Armed Forces

Dear Sir or Madam, I would like to know if the MOD has a list of
the number of people currently serving in the British Armed Forces
based on the following.. Religion, Race and Nationality. If it does
i would like to know the most recent recorded data on the above
listed (it doesn't have to be the exact number serving as of
today). If the general information above can not be located or
passed on perhaps you could answer more specific questions instead.

- How many British Blacks and Asians currently serve

- How many British Muslims and Christians currently serve

- How many British Atheists / No religion currently serve

- How many English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish serve

- How many people from the Commonwealth serve

Also, How many employees of the MOD (civilian and military) are
currently deployed or employed in Scotland, England and Wales. Is
there a breakdown of the military budget expenditure for these
regions.

I understand if some of this information is unavailable but i hope
some data will be found to answer my above questions thanks.

Simon,

I am currently working on the Freedom of Information Requested below dated
the 10th October 2008. We will be able to provide you with an answer to
the majority of the request however there is one section which I need to
clarify with you due to the nature of the data we have available. The area
in question is the part aimed at the military budget expenditure for
Scotland, England and Wales.

This is not an easy question to answer. Firstly your request refers to
'Military Budget'. We do not have Military Budget information as this is
not planned on a regional basis. What we do have is some information on
Defence Expenditure/Outturn, but the data that we do hold will not give a
complete picture of expenditure in a region. We have data on military and
civilian pay by region, and also data on the Estimated Equipment and
non-equipment expenditure by region. We have used this information to
answer questions in the past but with the proviso that money spent with a
contractor based, for example, in Scotland may eventually be
sub-contracted to a contractor in another part of the country.

If you are content with receiving this limited breakdown which will not
give a complete picture of expenditure in a region then please let me know
and I will collate the information.

Mark Williams,

Thankyou for your email responding to my request. If it is possible
to provide me with the data breakdown you mentioned for the regions
that would be great. I understand this wont be a precise figure, a
general picture of expenditure would be fine if possible.
