Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like advice and assistance on what information you hold on
public telephone boxes.
In particular I would be interested in information such as lists of
the telephone numbers, reference numbers, location (particularly OS
grid references, latitude/longitude).
If you don't currently hold this information I would like to know
if you are aware if this information is held by any other
organisation.
Yours faithfully,

Dear Mr Burgess,
Freedom of Information: Right to know request 1-127041578
Thank you for your request for information in which you asked for:
"advice and assistance on what information you hold on public telephone
boxes" and made a specific information request for "information such as
lists of telephone numbers, reference numbers, location..."
Ofcom received your information request on 8 September 2009 and has
considered it under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (`the Act') and
the Environmental Information Regulations 20[ ] (`EIR').
In relation to your general request for advice and assistance, there are
two communications providers in the UK, BT and Kingston Communications,
which are subject to certain regulatory conditions, known as universal
service conditions. Their universal service conditions include a
requirement to provide public call box telephone services sufficient to
meet the reasonable needs of end-users and an obligation to provide
information to Ofcom in relation to the quality of service of their public
call box telephone networks. There are a number of other communication
providers which also provide public call boxes in the UK. They are under
no specific regulatory obligation to provide information to Ofcom in
relation to these services but we may hold certain information on them by
virtue of Ofcom's functions under the Communications Act 2003.
In relation to your specific requests for the telephone numbers, reference
numbers and locations of public call boxes, we do not hold this
information. It may be available from local authorities. You might also
be interested in a list that BT publishes on its website, of the locations
of payphones with TextDirect capability.
