Joshua Carroll made this Freedom of Information request to University of Bath
The request was successful.
From: Joshua Carroll
21 January 2010
Dear University of Bath,
In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I would be
grateful for details of the University's dealings - if any - with
the following companies:
The Society for Environmental Exploration (Operating as 'Frontier')
Frontier Ltd (sister company to the above)
The former company sells overseas volunteer projects to gap year
and university students, the latter company provides marketing
services to the former.
I would like to know of any correspondence between either of the
companies and the University of Bath and if possible I would like
to read it. I would also like to know if any representatives from
Frontier have visited the university to speak at any public events
such as conferences, careers fairs etc or if there are any plans
for this to happen.
I would also be very grateful if you could find out whether or not
the university has any kind of business relationship with Frontier.
In particular, does the university facilitate marketing and
advertising for Frontier, (for example, posters, advertisements in
emails or letters to students, links on websites etc.)
I would be very grateful for your help
Yours faithfully,
Joshua Carroll

University of Bath

Dear Mr Carroll
Thank you for your request for information concerning University of Bath
dealings with the Society for Environmental Exploration/Frontier. Your
email was received on 21st January 2010 and has been dealt with under the
terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
The Society for Environmental Exploration/Frontier has attended annual
Vacation Work & Volunteering Fairs at the University since 2005. Like other
external organisations Frontier is charged a fixed rate for a stall from
which to display and distribute information and publicity material to
student attendees.
In addition, Frontier arranged to visit the University campus to deliver a
presentation to students in 2007, but cancelled due to lack of demand.
Information leaflets on Frontier are available from the Volunteer Centre in
the Students' Union but they have not been used at any of the Union-run
sessions promoting international development and volunteering. The
Students' Union Rag Administrator requested posters from Frontier last year
but these are not currently on display.
Apart from the arrangements described above, the University has no standing
contractual or business dealings with the Society for Environmental
Exploration/Frontier.
I hope you find this information useful. If you have any queries, please
contact: [University of Bath request email].
Yours sincerely
Lizzie Richmond
