Information on gap year company 'Frontier'

Joshua Carroll made this Freedom of Information request to Imperial College London

The request was successful.

From: Joshua Carroll

22 January 2010

Dear Imperial College London,

In accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I would be
grateful for details of the University's dealings - if any - with
the following companies:

The Society for Environmental Exploration (Operating as 'Frontier')

Frontier Ltd (sister company to the above)

The former company sells overseas volunteer projects to gap year
and university students, the latter company provides marketing
services to the former.

I would like to know of any correspondence between either of the
companies and the university and if possible I would like to read
it. I would also like to know if any representatives from Frontier
have visited the university to speak at any public events such as
conferences, careers fairs etc or if there are any plans for this
to happen.

I would also be very grateful if you could find out whether or not
the university has any kind of business relationship with Frontier.
In particular, does the university facilitate marketing and
advertising for Frontier, (for example, posters, advertisements in
emails or letters to students, links on websites etc.)

I would be very grateful for your help

Yours faithfully,

Joshua Carroll

Dear Mr Carroll

Further to your request for information about Frontier and the Society for Environmental Exploration (SEE) in your email below, the Careers Advisory Service at Imperial College is familiar with Frontier/ SEE. It does not go out of its way to promote the organisation but they do have a presence on the Careers Service online Employer Directory and they have, in the past, advertised opportunities through the online jobs board including jobs in their head offices. Frontier/ SEE have never attended any of our Careers Service Fairs and have not held a formal company presentation at Imperial since 2007. We have no hard copy or electronic communication trail with them other than their entry on our Joblive Employer Directory.

We do not have a link to the organisation from our website and currently hold no publicity material for them in hard copy in the Careers Library. We have no special relationship with them and would not plan to promote them over and above the normal exposure we would provide to any organisation wishing to offer opportunities to our students.

Please let me know if you require any further information. I am obliged, under the Freedom of Information Act, to inform you of our complaints procedures in case you are unhappy about the way in which your request has been dealt with. If you wish to complain about this response, you should contact the College Secretary at the address below.
