Date: 1 September 2008

Dear Gavin

Freedom of Information Request - externally advertised vacancies

Thank you for your e-mail of the 12 August 2008.

I am writing to confirm that the Department has now completed its search
for the information which you requested on the number of job vacancies
that were externally advertised by the Department for Children Schools
and Families (DCSF) from 01 April 2007 to 31 March 2008, and from 01
April 2008 to 30th June 2008.

DCSF did not exist prior to a machinery of Government change on the 28
June 2007. DCSF was formed, in the main, from a predecessor Department,
the Department for Education and Skills (DfES). We have therefore also
provided the DfES figures for 1 April 2007 to 30 June 2007 although
these may include posts which are now in the Department for Innovation,
Universities and Skills (DIUS) which was also created on the 28 June
2007.

Vacancies: 01April 2007 - 31 March 2008

3 recruitment campaigns were run from 1 April 2007 to 30 June 2007
advertising a total of 7 posts. 12 recruitment campaigns were run from
the 1 July 2007 to the 31 March 2008 advertising a total of 24 posts.

Vacancies: 01 April 2008 - 30 June 2008

3 recruitment campaigns were run from 1 April 2008 to the 30 June 2008
advertising a total of 42 posts. For this period, 30 of the advertised
posts were a joint recruitment venture between DCSF and the DIUS.
