Immigration Detainees held in Prisons
S.Mason made this Freedom of Information request to Ministry of Justice
Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Ministry of Justice should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Sir or Madam,
Figures released of Immigration Act detainees only reveal those
detained in Immigration Removal Centres (IRC) and exclude those
held in prison accommodation. This under reports the total number
of detainees by several hundred (eg see Hansard 13 Jan 2009, Col
720W, Mr Woolas’ answer to Mr Green’s question).
Home Office, Control of Immigration, Quarterly Statistical Summary,
Jan – March 2009, Tables 9, 10 &11 give data on those in detention
solely under Immigration Act powers, held only in IRCs. I request
comparable data on those detained in the prison system on 31 March
2009 and going back quarterly for the past year.
Thank you for your attention.
Steve Mason
Yours faithfully,
S.Mason
