Dear Gateshead Borough Council,
What, if any, methodologies are you currently using to:
1) identify
2) quantify (i.e. expressed in numbers)
3) remove
waste before making budget cuts to services?
Methodologies in use to reduce waste in the public sector include
lean, Six Sigma, business process re-engineering(BPR), systems
thinking, total quality management (TQM) and theory of constraints
(TOC).
Yours faithfully,
Brian Peters

Dear Sir
You requested the following information .
What methodologies we currently using to identify, quantify and remove
waste before making budget cuts to services.
In accordance with the Act we have decided to grant access to the
information requested.
We have developed a transformation programme which includes a Business
Process Improvement approach which we will be using to analyse all of the
council's functions with the aim of identifying, quantifying and removing
waste. This approach is based on proven improvement methodologies,
including Lean and Six Sigma, and makes use, specifically, of tools within
Lean. We have the internal skills to deliver this programme and have
employees who are qualified as lean practitioners and a six sigma black
belt.
Yours faithfully
