Dear Peter Bates,

Further to my previous requests regarding access to information
about the progress of the govt in providing authorised pitches on
private and public land for those 4200 odd travellers unable to
find a legitimate place to reside in the UK,could you provide
information on how many of these legitimately homeless people are
being provided for by local govt homeless support services and how
many are even accounted for under the local govt count.I understand
that if a district has under 10 in its area it may count it as 0
for the homeless register. Therefore could you provide any reliable
data about this matter, say how many homeless people in the south
west in the years Jan 1997 to Dec 2008,starting with devon.

Yours sincerely,

S.J.Wiltshire

Dear Mr Wiltshire

REF - E0003108

Thank you for your follow up email.

Unfortunately, the information you require is not held centrally. To break this down you would need to speak to individual local authorities.

What I can say is that CLG provides homelessness grant to all local authorities to support their homelessness strategies to tackle and prevent homelessness effectively. It is for local authorities to determine how they use their grant allocation to ensure that the needs of their community are met.

Yours, Gary

Dear Gary Messenger,

I do understand that individual local authorities are
supposed to have this data. The FOI officers I have spoken to seem
to be as unable as you to provide the information.Try this one
then.According to data held by the national association of gypsy
and traveller officers how many travellers have been placed on
authorised sites from unauthorised sites since 1997 til today.
Yours sincerely,

S.J.Wiltshire
