How Many Convictions Overturned Etc

Mark Charlesworth made this Freedom of Information request to Ministry of Justice

The request was refused by Ministry of Justice.

From: Mark Charlesworth

13 July 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

Please could you confirm how many convictions there have been since
records began, and how many overturned convictions etc there have
been since those figures began. I do not require an annual
breakdown but just totals ie

Records began in 1881. Since that date there have been 100
convictions to 2008 inclusive, and of those 15 were
quoshed/overturned.

Yours faithfully,

Mark Charlesworth

Dear Data Access & Compliance Unit,

I am seeking the following:

A: How many convictions have there been since records began. I do
not require a breakdown of any sort. just a total figure ie since
1705 to 2008 inclusive there has been 100 convictions.

B: Since 1705 to 2008 inclusive there has been 12 convictions
overturned/quashed etc.

I just require total figures and not a breakdown of year,
conviction type, etc.

Your answer just needs to be as the following example:

"Since 1705 when records began, until 2008 inclusive there has been
100 convictions. Since 1705 to 2008 inclusive there have been 12 of
those convictions overturned in one format or another."

Yours sincerely,

Mark Charlesworth
