Dear Sir or Madam,
How many GP's who have retired but continued to practice, since
2004, have had their entry on the performers list removed and had
to reapply?

Dear Mr Kumar,
Thank you for your recent FOI request.
The staff who will prepare the response have asked for clarification as set out below:
'Subject: FW: Freedom of Information request - How do the PCT deal with
retiring GP's who continue to practice
I am dealing with this request, but am a little confused about exactly what information they require. With the second question I am not sure if they mean if a GP has retired and when they have come back after say a 24hr retirement that they have changed their status from a partner to a locum GP and do they class this as an amendment on the performers list.
Would you be able to clarify this for me'.
It would be helpful if could please clarify the question accordingly.

Dear Tim Huggett (5P1) South East Essex PCT,
Thank you for your reply.
To clarify my first question, I was specifically hoping for the
numbers of GP's who having submitted notice of their intention to
retire but return to practice as a locum, since 2004, have been
removed from the performers list and had to reapply?
To clarify my second question, I was specifically hoping for the
numbers of GP's who having submitted notice of their intention to
retire but return to practice as a locum, since 2004, have had
their entry on the performers list simply amended and not had to
reapply.
I hope this helps but do feel free to contact me again should you
require any further information.
Yours sincerely,
Milan Kumar

Dear Mr Kumar,
Response to you questions:
In regard to answering both Milan Kumar's questions, the process for dealing with GPs who request to retire is as follows:
When a GP writes in to inform us of his/her intention to retire, we write back to the GP asking if they wish to remain on our Medical Performers List as a locum and if they wish to stay on as a locum we would just change their status.
I hope this answers the queries that Mr Kumar has.
