Dear Sir or Madam,
How many GP's who have retired but continued to practice, since
2004, have had their entry on the performers list removed and had
to reapply?

On 18 May Mr M Kumar sent an FoI request:
Q1) How many GP's who have retired but continued to practice, since
2004,have had their entry on the performers list removed and had to
reapply?
ANSWER: We process retirement exactly the same for each GP. They write
in to the Practitioner Services Unit giving details of when they wish to
retire. Some GP's may not rejoin their practice after taking retirement
and leave the performers list altogether. Some change their status on
the performers list from Principal to locum or salaried GP. If there is
no break in service we do not ask them to reapply. We have not had any
cases where the retiring GP asked to be deleted from the Performers List
and then changed their minds and asked to be re-instated
Q2) How many GP's who have retired but continued to practice, since
2004, have had their entry on the performers list amended and not had to
reapply?
RESPONSE: I do not yet have the numbers of cases where the GP retired
but told us that they wished to stay on working in the practice or
elsewhere as a locum and had their entry on the Performers List amended
to show the change in status. I will send this as soon as I get it.

Further to the answer given in my response to your second question (see
my email below) and I have looked at the last year June 2007 to June
2008 and the total number of GP Principals that have taken 24 hour
retirement and remained on the performers list as Principals at their
own request was 15 and from Principal to locum was 9 and three have
completely retired and left the list.
