Dear Sir or Madam,
What is the council's best estimate for the number of homeless
people living in the City of Derby?
How much money does the council dedicate to the provision of
services to the homeless population?
Yours faithfully,
Jack Perschke

Dear Jack
Your request for information has now been considered and the information
requested is below:
Local Authorities are responsible for reporting to the Government the
numbers of households who approach as homeless or are threatened with
homelessness and this includes those for whom homelessness is prevented as
a result of positive interventions.
I have taken information for the year 2008/9 which will be from April 2008
to the end of March 2009 but have of course estimated figures because we
are still in the last quarter.
The number of cases where a homeless application was taken in total is
estimated at 527 of which 63 are likely to be found to be not homeless.
The number of cases for which positive interventions have been successful
is estimated at 1012.
The estimated cost of homelessness services includes housing advice,
temporary accommodation costs and Supporting People funding for housing
related support for homeless households. This is estimated to be
2,606,518 for the year 2008/9.
