Dear Mr Trice,

Thank you for your email dated 05 July 2008 about Student numbers and
participation.

I am writing to confirm that we have now completed our search for the
information you requested on 5th July 2008.

A copy of the information that can be disclosed is enclosed. This is the
information you requested on the numbers from Cumbria local education
authority (LEA) of 16 and 17 year-old students at FE colleges and sixth
form colleges. This information has not been taken from the HESA student
record as the record only covers higher education institutions.

The figures relate to a snapshot taken at the end of 2004, in the middle
of the 2004/05 academic year. Information on the methodology for
calculating these figures can be found in the following statistical
first release (SFR):

http://www.dfes.gov.uk/rsgateway/DB/SFR/...

Following a search of our paper and electronic records, I have
established that the information you requested on the numbers from
Copeland parliamentary constituency of 16 and 17 year old students at FE
colleges and sixth form colleges is not held by this Department as such
figures are not broken down by parliamentary constituency.

(HE) courses at UK HE institutions, academic year 2004/05".

The information you are seeking is available (for a fee) from the Higher
