NHS Swindon can now respond to your request under the Freedom of
Information Act.

Request

I am a Lecturer with the University of Nottingham. I am an ex infection
control nurse currently undertaking a PhD. As part of my study I am
reviewing all Acute, PCT and Mental Health hand hygiene policies in NHS
trusts in England. Many trusts post these on the internet and I have been
able to locate about a third. Your trust is not one of them. Therefore I
would like to make a request for your organisations most recent hand
hygiene policy.

Answer

Please find attached two hand hygiene audits:

One is specifically written for Swindon Intermediate Care Centre (our
inpatient rehabilitation unit).

The other is the standard precautions section from the Health Protection
Agency's 'Infection Control Guidelines for Community Settings Manual'. The
manual is used in all other community settings within Swindon PCT,
including GP practices and care homes. As the manual is very large and has
numerous sections, we have only forwarded the standard precautions
section, which incorporates hand hygiene practice as requested (section
1.0).

This concludes your request, should you be dissatisfied with the response

you remain dissatisfied with the internal review or your request is
refused you can appeal to the independent Information Commissioner on
