Hammond Visit to Kings Cross briefing, advice, lines to take

From: william perrin
5 July 2010
Dear Department for Transport,
The Secretary of State visited King's Cross station on 20 May 2010
for a ceremony on Network Rail's new 'Platform Zero'.
I request under the Freedom of Information Act copies of all
briefing, advice lines to take etc provided for the Sectretary of
State, his accompanying offical party and the press office.
I also request copies that DfT may hold of correspondence between
officials and Ministers of the Department and Network Rail
preparing for and related to the visit.
There is strong public interest in the community around Kings Cross
about the state of affairs with regard to Platform Zero/Y and
Eastern Range. These projects are badly managed, over budget and
act against the local community interest. see
http://www.kingscrossenvironment.com/201...
Preparation for the Secretary of State's visit will have set out
the latest position and history and there is a strong public
interest in releasing it to hold public expenditure to account.
Arguments of commercial confidentiality cannot apply given that
there have already been substantial FOI disclosures on the costs of
the project (see my former requests that have been largely met).
Arguments of exemptions under advice to Ministers are nugatory -
there were no policy decisions to make here - it was a simple meet
and greet visit. This was an event publicised to the press on
property owned by a semi public company.
Arguments that this should wait until FOI comes to Network Rail are
nugatory - i am asking DFT, not Network Rail, i might ask them in
due course.
Yours faithfully,
william perrin
