The request was successful.
From: Jon Cooper
4 August 2009
Dear Sir or Madam,
Was the contract to run the Edinburgh GrassMarkets put out to
tender? If yes who were the other bidders other than Unique Events?
If no, why not? Please will you clariy the council's tendering
process for events such as the GrassMarkets?
Yours faithfully,
Jon Cooper

City of Edinburgh Council
7 October 2009
Good morning.
With apologies for the lateness of my response, I refer to the FOI request
submitted by you in August, which was due for response early last month.
You wanted to know what fee (if any) was paid by Unique Events for the
licence to run the five Grassmarkets over the summer, 2009. You also
wanted to know if there had been any objections made to the markets on the
grounds of noise (from live music in particular) or any subsequent
complaints from residents.
I would confirm that, the application for the annual Market Operator's
licence for the Grassmarket was made by the Council, with a request for a
waiver of fee being made at the same time. The fee waiver was approved by
the Licensing Sub-Committee on 3rd April 2009, with the licence being
granted on 1st May 2009.
There have been no objections or representations from the public in
respect of the application when it was lodged, nor any correspondence
since the licence was granted.
It is suggested that as the Council's Events Department had some
involvement in the setting up on the market at the Grassmarket, Norman
Ireland (Special Projects Manager) or Jane Bremner (Senior Events
Officer) in the Events Department might be able to shed further light on
this matter if required.
Hope this assists in the meantime - and apologies again for the belated
response!
Kind regards,
Nick
