Gender Dysphoria Policy

Ms Roberts made this Freedom of Information request to Coventry Teaching Primary Care Trust (PCT)

The request was successful.

From: Ms Roberts

1 January 2010

Dear Coventry Teaching Primary Care Trust (PCT),

This is a request for information under the Freedom of Information
Act 2000.

Can you please tell me your current policy for assessment/treatment
for gender reassignment/dysphoria?

What is the officially recognised path for patients requesting
gender reassignment?

Is gender dysphoria classed as a mental-health issue by
the PCT?

How does the PCT deal with GPs formally requesting psychiatric
referral for diagnosis of gender dysphoria?

Is there a waiting list for patients requesting 'Gender Identity
Clinic' referral, how long is the average wait?

What are the current policies on funding and commissioning of
tertiary care for gender dysphoria, which tertiary care providers
does the PCT provide funding for, and what does the PCT typically
pay for each service these providers provide?

Yours faithfully,

Ms Roberts

Dear Ms Roberts

Our response to each question, as listed, is as follows:

- please see attached Gender Dysphoria Policy which includes
pathway

- pathway is outlined in attached Policy

- yes, care pathway includes psychiatric assessment

- GPs refer to local services in line with Policy

- unfortunately we do not hold waiting list information. Patients
are usually referred to London, following pathway

- please see attached policy. West London Mental Health Trust,
Charring Cross (Out-Patient based)

- Payment is dependent on number of episodes and types of surgery.
There are too many variables and because each case differs there is no
typical rate of pay for each service provided

Yours sincerely
