Gay pride flag
Stephen Gash made this Freedom of Information request to Merseyside Police
The request was successful.
From: Stephen Gash
3 June 2009
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am requesting information about whether planning permission was
sought to fly the Gay Pride flag from flagpoles over a number of
Merseyside police stations (reported in national papers on
28/05/2009)?
Of course the information requested should include dates for when
planning permission was granted to fly the said flag, and when the
flags were flown.
If the necessary planning permission was not granted prior to the
Gay Pride flag being flown, please inform me (under the freedom of
information legislation) of any action taken against Merseyside
Police, and any staff members concerned with displaying this
non-national flag. Such action would include prosecution of course.
Non-national flags require planning permission from the appropriate
local authority to be granted and a fee to be paid, before the flag
may be flown.
I wish it to be known that I am only interested in whether the
correct procedures and disciplinary actions were fulfilled. No
organisation or individual is above the law and people have found
themselves in trouble for flying flags in England at least.
Yours faithfully,
Stephen Gash
