Further to our email of 29 May, I am writing to inform you that we will
not have a response to your request below by Friday 26 June 2009. We

taking longer than anticipated to pull all the information you have
requested together. In relation to your specific request below, much of
the email correspondance is archived, and it will take more time to
access this than originally anticipated. We hope to have an answer to
your request by the end of next week.
Should you need to query anything further, please email

Dear J Cassidy
Thank you for your request for information made under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 (FOIA) on 29 May 2009. Please note that the LGA is
not covered by the provisions of the Act, but we always try to deal with
such requests within the spirit of the legislation.
We have processed your request for details of specific email
correspondance between 2 LGA personnel and specific named email contacts
at the Home Office. I enclose copies of all the email correspondence
made between these people.
We have withheld some items as they fall within the following exemptions
under the FOIA:
- section 36 (prejudice to the effective conduct of public affairs) - we
believe that the disclosure of UASC negotiations would prejudice the
effective conduct of public affairs because it could prejudice the free
and frank exchange of views on UASC policy advice.
- section 41 (information provided in confidence) - we believe that the
information provided by local authorities and individuals as part of the
UASC meetings in terms of policy advice is provided in confidence and
therefore falls within this exemption.
Both the above exemptions are subject to the public interest test, and
this has been applied to all the relevant items by the LGA. In instances
where LGA staff found the public interest in maintaining the exemption
outweighs the public interest in disclosing the information, the
documents have been withheld.
In the copies included with this letter some personal details have been
redacted in line with section 40 and our duties under the Data
Protection Act 1998.
Please note that the LGA has spent approximately five full working days
in retrieving the information you have requested
I hope this helps
