Dear Mr. O'Hara,

Thank you for your Freedom of Information Request where you asked for
information about addresses removed from the PAF.

From our preliminary assessment, it is clear that we will not be able to
answer your request without further clarification.

Specifically, we need to know whether your reference to PAF (Postal
Address File) is in fact meant to be `Postcode Address File' and whether
you only wish to know about council-owned property within the
administrative area of Somerset, as only these would fall within our
remit. If, as your request suggests, you wish to have details of the
entire administrative area, we would have thought the Royal Mail might
hold this information or perhaps the District Councils - although we
haven't ascertained whether this is the case.

Once you have clarified your request, I will be able to begin to process
your request. If I do not receive clarification within three months your
request will be considered to have lapsed. (Under section 1(3) of the
Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), a public authority need not comply with
a request unless any further information reasonably required to locate the
information is supplied).

Please remember to quote the reference number (657) above in any future
communications.

Yours sincerely,

Sue Paddick

Dear Sue Paddick,

Some clarification might be needed. Authorities that deal with
street naming and numbering are required to administrate the naming
and numbering of ALL houses and street addresses within their
administrative area.

Although the PAF is the property of Royal mail after this
information has been passed to them, the information is the
property of the collecting authority in its raw form.

I am asking for a list of which properties the authority has
informed Royal mail of due to the fact that they are no longer
viable addresses. This information is the property of the
administrating authority and therefore comes within the pervue of
the FOI for my purposes.

Yours sincerely,

Tom O'Hara
