Dear Oxfordshire County Council,
I am contacting you under the Freedom of Information Act. I
understand you have 20 working days to answer my questions.
I would appreciate all responses to be sent via email, with
necessary supporting material attached where appropriate. Please
send all information and responses to [email address].
I would like you to provide me with the following pieces of
information:
1/. The total amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) generated by you as a
council for the calendar years 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. For 2010
please provide a figure to-date.
2/. The amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) generated by council owned
ICT equipment for the calendar years 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. For
2010 please provide a figure to-date.
3/. Please quantify what reductions in CO2 you as a council have
achieved through new ICT projects for the calendar years 2007,
2008, 2009 and 2010. For 2010 please provide a figure to-date.
4/. Are you fully compliant with the Government Connect Secure
Extranet (GCSX) standard. If not please outline which elements you
are compliant with and whether their are any plans to address the
areas where you aren’t compliant.
If you are unable to fulfil all parts of this enquiry, please
provide whatever information you are able to.
Under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act, I expect a
response on or before March 11, 2010. As permitted by the Freedom
of Information Act, the information you provide may be disclosed
publicly post publication.
Thank you for your help in this matter.
Yours faithfully,
Lauren Hoult

Dear Ms Hoult
Thank you for your request of 12 February 2010 in which you asked for the
following information:
If not please outline which elements you
are compliant with and whether their are any plans to address the
areas where you aren't compliant.
Taking each of your points in turn:
1/. The total amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) generated by you as a
council for the calendar years 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. For 2010
please provide a figure to-date.
The council calculates its CO[2] footprint in financial years rather
than calendar years. This includes transport, waste and energy use
including street lighting, for schools and non school buildings.
The amount generated for each year is as follows:
2005/06 - 63,000 tonnes
2006/07 - the council does not hold complete data for this year.
2007/08 - the council does not hold complete data for this year
2008/09 - 61,631 tonnes
2009/2010 - Using data collected between April 01 2009 and Sept 2009 we
have predicted our footprint for 2009/10 may be 61,000 tonnes. However
this figure was estimated before the cold winter so is subject to
change.
2/. The amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) generated by council owned
ICT equipment for the calendar years 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. For
2010 please provide a figure to-date.
ICT Services does not currently record this information. It is,
however, included in the total CO[2] figures for the County Council.
3/. Please quantify what reductions in CO2 you as a council have
achieved through new ICT projects for the calendar years 2007,
2008, 2009 and 2010. For 2010 please provide a figure to-date.
ICT Services does not currently record this information. However, ICT
are taking steps to reduce the CO[2] emitted and are working within the
County Council's Carbon Management Programme, which has committed to an
18% reduction in CO2 by 2012 from a 2005/2006 baseline.
4/. Are you fully compliant with the Government Connect Secure
Extranet (GCSX) standard. If not please outline which elements you
are compliant with and whether their are any plans to address the
areas where you aren't compliant.
The council is accredited for connection to GCSX under the Code of
Connection 3.1.
