Forced marriage research and the spouse visa age

A Freedom of Information request to UK Border Agency by Colin Yeo

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, UK Border Agency should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Colin Yeo

24 June 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

I make this request further to one made to the Home Office on 26
May 2009. It was suggested to me by employee Mr Noakes that I
redirect my request to UKBA. I fail to see how a request to the
Home Office is not a request to UKBA, but for the sake of
completeness repeat my request now. It is more than 20 days since
my original request.

The Home Office commissioned research into whether raising the
spouse visa age from 18 to 21 or 24 might help to prevent forced
marriages. The research appears to have been conducted by the
Violence Against Women Research Group at the School for Policy
Studies based at the University of Bristol. A summary of the
research findings has been published.

The full research report has not been published and I request that
it is made available. The findings are published so there is no
reason why the full research report should not also be made
available.

Yours faithfully,

Colin Yeo
