Dear Mr Wilson
Freedom of Information Act enquiry F0006191
Thank you for your request for information which we received on 9th February 2010. I am writing to confirm that the Department for Transport has now completed its search for the information which you requested.
Your request was:
“Andrew Adonis recently announced that investment would be given to
a number of the worst stations on the UK network for improvements.
It has been announced that Luton Station was on that list.
Q1 Can you please confirm that Luton station will be receiving
investment, how much is being invested, and when the work will take
place.
A1. Luton station is part of the announced scheme. The Department announced a £50m investment package. The development scheme is being led by Network Rail and the Department has no breakdown of how much will be dedicated to Luton Station. Work is expected to commence in 2012.
Q2 It has been stated by FCC that a new station will be built. Will
this be on the site of the existing station, or at another site?
A2 The Department does not hold any information on FCC making a formal statement on Luton Station. The Department understand that the proposal for improvements will be made to the current station site.
Q3 Why do all of the road signs for Luton station state 'Central
station', when this does not form part of the station name?”
A3 The Department does not hold any information on this subject. This is a matter for Luton Borough Council.
