Final cost for the Clissold Leisure Centre.

Neil Hood made this Freedom of Information request to Hackney Borough Council

The request was successful.

From: Neil Hood

20 July 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

Congratulations on recently receiving the “excellent” rating on
QUEST accreditation for the Clissold Leisure Centre.

Now that the Centre is fully functional and receiving such
accolades, under the Freedom of Information Act, would you please
advise me how much was the final and total cost for the planning
and construction of the Clissold Leisure Centre?

Also, was this cost borne purely by local tax and rate payers? Or
were any monies/grants given from central government or other
bodies to help spread the costs? If so, how much?

Yours faithfully,

Neil Hood

Dear Mr Hood,

Re: Freedom of Information request

Thank you for your recent Freedom of Information request received on 24
July 2009. You requested the following information:

The final and total cost for the planning and construction of the Clissold
Leisure Centre?

The centre cost about £32 million to build when it was first constructed
and the subsequent repair costs were budgeted at £13 million.

Also, was this cost borne purely by local tax and rate payers? Or were any
monies/grants given from central government or other bodies to help
spread the costs? If so, how much?

The cost of the centre was funded by the London Borough of Hackney, with
an £11 million grant from Sport England.

However, the Council took legal action against the parties who were
involved in the original construction and received a settlement. Hackney*s
settlement with the architect and building contractor resulted in a
significant payment for the repair works. The details of this settlement
are confidential under the terms of the agreement.

If you are dissatisfied with this response and wish to appeal, please
write to the Information Governance Team, Appeals, 6-15 Florfield Road,
Hackney London E8 1DT and your complaint will be dealt with through our
Internal Review procedure.
