Dear Mr Haggar

You have addressed your request to Mr Mike Hancock MP. Individual MPs are not subject to the provisions of the FOI Act and the House of Commons does not have access to information they hold.

The House of Commons does hold information in the form of annual returns of salary and deductions. However, disclosure of this information to you would constitute a breach of the data protection principles as set out in the Data Protection Act 1998. Therefore the information is exempt from the obligations set out in section 1 1(b) of the FOI Act by virtue of the provisions set out in section 40(2) and 40(3)(a) of the same Act (the personal information exemption) and your request is refused. This is an absolute exemption and the public interest test does not apply.

Otherwise, no information is held by the House of Commons.

Some information about pay scales for Members staff is provided the Register of Members Interests.

You may, if dissatisfied with the treatment of your request, ask the House of Commons to conduct an internal review of this decision. Requests for internal review should be addressed to: Freedom of Information Officer, Department of Resources, House of Commons London SW1 OAA or [House of Commons request email]. Please ensure that you specify the nature of your complaint and any arguments or points that you wish to make.

If you remain dissatisfied, you may appeal to the Information Commissioner at Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely
