Dear Sir or Madam,
I'd be very grateful if you would provide me with copies of any
instructions, guidance and training materials issued to those
engaged in door-to-door electoral roll canvassing in Bath & North
East Somerset. I'm particularly interested in anything regarding
how the canvassers approach their dealings with householders, and
whether anything is issued to canvassers to help them locate
properties for which no registration form has been completed (for
example maps).
I'd also be interested to see any documentation you hold regarding
the resourcing of the door-to-door canvassing operation, in
particular the employment and printing costs.
Finally, I'd like to see any statistics you have on the number of
registrations received through each mechanism you provide:
telephone, Internet and post, and the cost of operation in each
case.
Many thanks in advance.
Yours faithfully,
Stephen Lewis

Dear Mr Lewis,
Thank you for your recent information request. We can now respond as follows.
I have attached a copy of the instructions for our electoral registration canvassers. In addition to these, we provide maps of the various canvass areas.
Our canvassers are selected from our database of electoral staff. This year we spent £21,500 on canvassers' costs.
I have also attached a report with final return figures, broken down by post and ERS. ERS is the phone and internet registration service. Royal Mail costs are £24,000, while ERS should be around £3,500.
I trust that we have answered your queries, however if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
If you are unhappy with the response to your request, you may ask for an internal review. Please contact the Council's Head of Audit, Risk and Information, Mr Jeff Wring at the Guildhall, High St, Bath BA1 5AW mailto:[email address].
If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you have the right to appeal directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF www.informationcommissioner.gov.uk<http://www.informationcommissioner.gov.uk/>.
