Election data - spoilt votes
Paul J Herring made this Freedom of Information request to Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council
The request was successful.
From: Paul J Herring
8 May 2010
Dear Gateshead Borough Council,
There is apparently no data in the public domain on the number of
spoilt (deliberately or otherwise) votes. Turnout figures generally
give the sum total of votes given to all parties that presented to
the elections, rather than the number of ballot papers returned.
For both the general and local elections, could you give the number
of
a) total votes
b) spoilt votes (deliberate or otherwise)
in
a) the general election for Gateshead (or the constituancy that
includes Gateshead) for both the 2010 election and the 2005
election.
b) every local election in 'Gateshead', specifically Deckham but
others would be appreciated, since 2004.
In addition, while I'm sure they are (supposed to be) a matter of
public record, I'd appreciate the breakdown of numbers for the
candiates in each election in the response.
Yours faithfully,
Paul J Herring
