EIR - request for advice
Alex Skene made this Environmental Information Regulations request to Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure
The request was successful.
From: Alex Skene
10 August 2008
Dear Sir or Madam,
Under Regulation 4 of the Environmental Information Regulations
2004 (EIR), environmental information relevant to the functions of
the Security Service, which does not adversely affect national
security can be requested.
According to guidance provided by the Information Commissioner,
"paragraph 6 of the EIR procedural code of practice recommends that
each public authority should provide details of its procedures for
dealing with requests (by means of its publication scheme where it
has one). This will be an important means of providing general
advice to a wide range of potential applicants."

Dear Mr Skene,
Thank you for your email dated 10 August 2008, in which you request the
following information regarding CPNI under the Environmental Information
Regulations 2004 (EIR):
1) How to make a request for environmental information from the CPNI
Requests for information under the EIR can be submitted to CPNI via the
feedback and general enquiries form on the CPNI website. This can be
found at www.cpni.gov.uk/feedback/default.aspx. Alternatively, requests
can by submitted in writing to the following address:
Central Support
PO Box 60628
SW1P 9HA
2) The types of environmental information CPNI holds
By virtue of the exemption at section 12(4)(a) of the EIR, CPNI are
unable to provide the information which you request. We judge that this
request is too general to enable us to adequately identify information
to be released to you. You are, however, welcome to request specific
environmental information under the EIR, which we will endeavour to
provide to you within the boundaries of national security and the
exemptions at section 12 of the EIR.
3) Details of any publication scheme
CPNI do not have a formal publication scheme for environmental
information. However, the Security Service, to whom CPNI are
accountable, have released some general environmental information under
the EIR which can be found at www.mi5.gov.uk/textonly/page227.html.
I hope that the above information will be of assistance to you. Should
you be dissatisfied with this response you have the right to complain to
the Information Commissioner, as established by section 18 of the EIR.
The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:
Wycliffe House,
Water Lane,
Wilmslow,
Cheshire,
SK9 5AF
Yours Sincerely,
CPNI Enquiries Team
