Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to receive details of: (1) the number of persons in
the local authority (LA) of compulsory school age who are
electively home educated and (2) the number of persons in the LA
who claim to be electively home educated;
who have been either suspected or found to be involved in child
abuse, neglect, forced marriage, sexual exploitation or domestic
servitude.
In addition, how many SAOs have been issued in total and how many
have been enforced please?
Also, please could you reveal how many (if any) Serious Case
Reviews or Joint Area Reviews have reported with respect to home
educated children in the LA.

Dear Ms Cowne
Freedom of Information Request
I am writing to acknowledge the receipt of your information request. The request will be managed according to City of York Council's Freedom of Information Policy and the Procedure for Responding to FoI Requests. The Freedom of Information Act gives you a right of access to information. City of York Council believes in open government, and, as promised in our Information Management Charter, we will provide the information you request, unless it falls under an exemption set out in the Act. If all or some of the information you request falls under an exemption we will explain why in our response to the request.
Your request has been passed to Mark Ellis / Joe Cocker the service managers in Access and Social Services section, to locate the information, they will contact you directly if it is necessary to clarify your request further. We will respond to your request within 20 working days from the day after receipt of the request which was, 31st March 2009, but if the service manager needs to seek clarification the 20 days will re-start from the date when this happens.
You will be asked to pay for any disbursement charges for preparing the information for you, such as photocopying and postage, but that is all. You will be informed of the charge as soon as it can be established. If you have an upper limit in terms of cost please inform the service manager as soon as possible.

Dear Ms Cowne
In response to your email of the 29 March:
1. The City of York Council currently has 67 young people who are electively home educated.
2. There are no young people who are electively home educated or any of there parent/carers who have been either suspected or found to be involved in child abuse, neglect, forced marriage, sexual exploitation or domestic servitude according to the records we currently hold.
3. Similarly we have issued no school attendance orders and there have been no Serious case reviews or join area reviews involving elective home educated pupils.
