Further to your email dated 5^th June 2009, in which you request the
disclosure of information under the provisions of the above Act, we are
now in a position to respond.

1. Does your Local Authority presently employ Education

Counsellors* (rather than `buying in' such a service from an

external provider)?

Within the Lancashire Education Inclusion Service we have qualified and
experienced counsellors who work with children and young people in
Lancashire County Council schools. The counsellors have full time
permanent contracts.

2. If the answer to Question 1 is `yes', please state for each

Education Counsellor employed by the Local Authority:

o Whether they have been deemed to be eligible to join the Teachers

Pension Scheme and

o The date when they joined the Teachers Pension Scheme

o Whether they are employed on Teachers Terms and Conditions of

Employment

The counsellors employed are not teachers and are not eligible to
contribute to the teacher's pension scheme.

3. If your Local Authority does not presently employ Education

Counsellors have they done so in the past?

Not applicable.

4. If the answer to Question 3 is `yes', please state for each

School Counsellor employed by the Local Authority since 31 March

2004:

o Whether they were deemed to be eligible to join the Teachers

Pension Scheme and

o When they joined the Teachers Pension Scheme

* Education Counsellors meaning those employed to support pupils in

education
