DOW 048:030 and DOW 048:011

Richard Jackson made this Freedom of Information request to Northern Ireland Environment Agency

The request was successful.

From: Richard Jackson

7 May 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

Can you please tell me what information you hold on DOW 048:030 and
DOW 048:011. I am aware of the details provided at
http://www.ni-environment.gov.uk/nismrvi... and
http://www.ni-environment.gov.uk/nismrvi... but in
each case there is a reference to "See SM7 for details" and I am
unsure what this means.

Similarly, the Scheduled Monuments list (Mar 08) lists a B-File of
"B606/73 Vols 1&2" for the court tomb, but again I do not know what
this is.

Please note that as I am not based in Northern Ireland I cannot
easily visit your offices, so I would be obliged if you could
differentiate between information only available to visitors and
information that is available online or could be supplied by email.

Yours faithfully,

Richard Jackson

Dear Alison,

Thank you for your response. I have, however, never received any
email from Anthony Kirby. I received an acknowledgement from Lauran
Morrow on May 18th, but that was the last I've heard.

Thanks,

Richard

Dear Mr Jackson

I am responding your e-mail of 7 May (see below).

My apologies for the delay in providing the information you requested.

We try to make as much as possible of the information which we hold
on monuments in Northern Ireland available on line, but currently our
database only provides brief summary descriptions. The SM7 files referred
to are our publically-accessible files, held in Waterman House, which this
summary is provided from. We are working towards getting these files fully
scanned and made available through our website, but haven't quite achieved
this yet. We are happy to provide copies of this information and I have
passed your request on to Helen Murphy who will ensure that the material
you have requested is e-mailed to you within the next 5 working days.

The B-files which you refer to on our scheduled monuments list are our
internal administration files relating to the monument and the material
held on these is not publically accessible.

I can inform you that the Department has concluded that your request does
not fall under the Freedom of Information Act.

If you have any further queries do not hesitate to contact us.

Dear Anthony,

Thank you for this reply, and subsequent provision of the SM7
files, which are very interesting and helpful. Do you have any
estimates at this point as to when these will all be made available
on-line.

I am however, a little confused by your claim that my request "does
not fall under the Freedom of Information Act" and that the
internal administration "B-files" are "not publically accessible".

Whilst I accept that my request was more of a preliminary enquiry
as to what was available, rather than an explicit request for that
information yet, this still seems to me to be a valid request and I
am curious as to what basis you are using to decide that it is not.

I am also curious as to what exemption you are claiming in relation
to the B-files. For the sake of short-circuiting any issues
relating to my not having explicitly requested copies of these
files yet, please treat this email as a formal request for same.

Yours sincerely,

Richard Jackson

Dear Richard

We have copied two files for you and there is a quite large amount of papers.

If you prefer an electronic version, we shall try to do this for you. We may need to reduce the size of the deeds which we are including, in order to scan them, and we may not be able to fit all of the information onto an A4 sheet.

Please advise

Many thanks

Dear Alison,

Yes: scanned versions would be preferable, and I expect that it
should be OK to reduce the sizes. If any of them turn out to be
unreadable at the smaller size, we can try an alternative method.

Thanks for your assistance,

Richard
