Dear Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs,
I'd like to request a list of the donations made to the Royal
Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) for the financial year
ending 31st March 2009.
An abridged version of the Trustees report is available on their
website, but I would like a complete list detailing the
name/company name of the donor and the amount donated.
Yours faithfully,
C Montanaro

This is, frankly, a ludicrous response and I'm astonished they took almost the full 20 days to respond.
I can confirm that Defra donates a significant sum to the RSPB. It would have taken them 30 seconds to see that on the RSPB website. What I wanted was a complete list of all donations.
Furthermore, as a charity their finances should be publicly available, not just the abridged version available on the RPSB site. All other FOI requests about the RSPB went to Defra, so why not this one?
This response smacks of contempt for the freedom of information and I will be issuing a further complaint.
