From: Jessica Pattison

Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to make an Open Government request for all the
information to which I am entitled under the Freedom of Information
Act 2000.
In order to assist you with this request, I am outlining my query
as specifically as possible.
If however this request is too wide or too unclear, I would be
grateful if you could contact me as I understand that under the
Act, you are required to advise and assist requesters.
I am requesting the following, all separated by year, from the
years 2000 - 2009:
1. The number of domestic violence cases reported to you.
2. The number of these allegations which were made by women, and
similarly the number that were made by men.
3. How many of these allegations led to a conviction.
4. How many of these convictions were of men, and how many of
women.
I understand that under the Act, I should be entitled to a response
within 20 working days. I would be grateful if you could confirm in
writing or by email that you have received this request. I look
forward to hearing from you in the near future.
Yours faithfully,
Jessica Pattison

Dear Ms Pattison
I am just confirming receipt of your request
Having looked at your request the Police Authority does not hold this
information but the Bedfordshire Police Force is likely to. If you wish
to proceed with your request I can transfer it to the Force and the 20
working day response timescale will then commence.
Please let me know if you wish for me to transfer your request

Dear Jessica,
Thank you for your FOI request which was transferred in to my office
this morning.
Having now had a chance to read through your request I have been
informed of the following details which will need to be clarified before
I can progress this further.
Please read below the clarification points I will require answers:
I am requesting the following, all separated by year, from the
years 2000 - 2009: We will only be able to easily retrieve crime data
dating back as far as April 2005, which is when our current crime
management system went live. Before then I would assess the time it
would take to retrieve this data would probably invoke Section 12 costs.
Will from that date be acceptable?
In addition, Could you please clarify to what level you wish us to
search down to and what you mean by "domestic violence cases"? As many
Domestic Violence cases/incidents which we attend may be reported, but
may actually not result in any crime taking place or being recorded.
Also, we would not be able to accurately answer who reported these (male
or female) allegations as in many cases they could be anonymous i.e.
reported by a concerned neighbour or another family member?
I have also been informed as the questions stand that we would be unable
to retrieve conviction data as there is no link between the systems so
again costs would become an issue?
1. The number of domestic violence cases reported to you -
2. The number of these allegations which were made by women, and
similarly the number that were made by men
3. How many of these allegations led to a conviction.
4. How many of these convictions were of men, and how many of
women.
I await your prompt response so that I may progress your enquiry.
Many thanks
Kevin

Dear Kevin Sharp,
As you would be unable to retrieve conviction data which is
something I would like, then please do not proceed with my enquiry.
Yours sincerely,
Jessica Pattison
