registering domain names is actually quite cheap, usually under £10. I think that the bbc has registered these domains so that they are not registered by cyber criminals who would make the site look identical to the actual tv licensing website and con people into giving over bank details. These domains could be used by email spammers telling people to renew their license, or be navigated to by people typing the url in. I myself have purchased around 6 domain names that are similar to my actual website for this reason, and such a policy is common with many firms especially if there is a likelyhood that people can be scammed into giving bank details; as would be the case for tv licensing.

Much as I hold the BBC in disdain I think on this occasion they are being quite reasonable as the previous poster explains.

anyone searching for TVL or tv licence info might come across the growing number of people who are sick of the bbc streaming propaganda into their homes as fact, and have setup anti bbc info sites, or people like Noel Edmonds, Charles Moore, or Gerard Batten Euro MP who refuse to pay their tv licence.
