Discussions between the DH and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council

Tony Brooks made this Freedom of Information request to Department of Health

The request was partially successful.

From: Tony Brooks

16 October 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

On 14th October the Minister of Health stated in Parliament: "The
Department meets the CNHC regularly to discuss progress."

Since the department's continued funding of the CNHC is said to be
dependent on the progress being made, the outcome of these
discussions are clearly of public interest.

Therefore would you please send me copies of the Minutes (or, if
these were not taken, at least the notes) covering all such
meetings which have taken place in the last six months.

Yours faithfully,

Tony Brooks

Dear Mr Brooks

Thank you for your email dated 16 October requesting, under the Freedom of
Information Act, information about meetings between the Department of
Health and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).

You asked for minutes or notes from such meetings held within the last six
months. There has only been one meeting during that period. Departmental
officials meet with the CNHC three or four times per year and the last
meeting was held on 5th June 2009. Please find attached the action notes
which arose from that meeting. Personal data and the names of all civil
servants below SCS level have been redacted in accordance with s40(2) and
(3) of the Freedom of Information Act.

I hope this reply is useful. If you are dissatisfied with the handling of
your request, you have the right to ask for an internal review. Internal
review requests should be submitted within two months of the date of
receipt of the response to your original letter and should be addressed
to:

Head of the Freedom of Information Team
Department of Health
Room 317
Richmond House

Email: [email address]

If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint, you may apply
directly to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) for a decision.
Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the
complaints procedure provided by the Department. The ICO can be contacted
at:

Information Commissioner's Office

Yours sincerely,

Dear Lynn Sweeny,

This reply is acceptable as far as it goes, but is useless in that
it gives no information of any kind about the progress made in
recent months by the CHNC, which, as I pointed out in my request,
is a matter of public interest.

Clearly I asked the wrong question; I am therefore submitting
another request immediately.

Yours faithfully,

Tony Brooks
