12 April 2010

Dear Elizabeth

I am writing to you in reply to your Freedom of Information Act request. I
am able to provide the following information:

1. How many disabled children are registered with your Childrens' Services
Dept

There are 790 disabled children who are known (***registered***) to
Children***s Social Care and Health services. There are 824 disabled
children attending Nottinghamshire special schools and 1,214 pupils who
have a special educational needs statement.

2. How many of those disabled children and / their carers *do not* have
care plans?

403 of the 790 disabled children known to social care services do not have
a ***care*** plan. These are disabled children who are currently going
through an assessment and who will not yet have had a plan drawn up and
also children who are open to children***s social care Occupational
therapy (OT) services and who have had OT assessments which recommend
specialist OT services being provided.

3. How many carers are registered disabled/in receipt of disability
benefit/ reported as suffering from depression and or any other
psychological problems

In terms of numbers of parents of disabled children who also have a
disability, of the families known to children***s social care, 27 have a
recorded disability.

4. How are care-plans implemented and overseen by social workers
for disabled children and their carers/families?

Social workers work with families to implement the child***s ***care
***plan and the plans are reviewed at regular intervals according to the
nature of the case. Occupational Therapists will also set OT review dates
according to the needs / age of the child.

If you have any further enquiries regarding this matter please do not
hesitate to contact me.
