Dear Mr Grade

RE: YOUR REQUEST REF 2555 UNDER THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT 2000

We have considered your request which was as follows:
Please can you inform me of your intentions for managing the provision of
digital TV in preparation for analogue switch-off for the residents of
your council-run properties. I would like to know what process is
being used to establish the needs of residents, costs to residents and
services to be provided.
The Council has responsibility for a number of residents and tenants. The
management of the Council's portfolio of homes for the elderly was
externalised some years ago to a number of third-party providers and any
policy regarding the switchover from analogue to digital television will
be their responsibility.
The Council also maintains a portfolio of service accommodation for those
employees who need to live close to their work as well as a very small
portfolio of other staff accommodation. In addition, the Council also
maintains some residential accommodation for children and adults with a
range of behavioural, emotional and physical difficulties. These
portfolios are constantly under review. At this time, however, there is no
strategy in place to deal with the switchover from analogue to digital
television. It is possible that in some areas this will be deemed to be a
tenant responsibility but in other areas it is probable that Surrey County
Council will develop a strategy to deal with this issue as we have to with
other changes outside our control.

We supply this information based on your original request. Please do not
hesitate to contact me at the above address if you have any queries
