Dear Ms Evans,
Thank you for your email requesting information about CSDB. I am writing to
confirm that the Office for National Statistics has now completed its
search for the information and a copy of the information is enclosed.
(1) The name and version of the database software (eg Oracle, mySQL, etc);
Ingres 2006 (9.1.1), OpenRoad 2006.
(2) The definitions of the tables in this database in terms of names,
columns and datatypes;
Attached is a tab delimited file, TablesColumns.txt, containing details
for all tables on the CSDB database:
(See attached file: TablesColumns.txt)
(NB This list includes a number of "user" created tables, it would take
more than 3 days to identify 'real' from "user" tables.)
(3) The total size of the database in terms of its memory on disk;
The amount of disk space used by CSDB is 58Gb.
(4) How frequently this information is backed up and/or reloaded into the
database, and how long this process takes.
The database is backed-up every week night and takes 4.5 hours. There
has never been a need to restore the database.
You have the right to have this response to your freedom of information
request reviewed internally by an internal review process and, if you
remain unhappy with the decision, by the Information Commissioner. If you
would like to have the decision reviewed please write to Frank Nolan,
