Details of Adam Crozier's expenses

A Freedom of Information request to Royal Mail Group by Heather Brooke

The request was successful.

24 July 2008

Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to request a listing of all Adam
Crozier’s expenses broken down by claim and/or receipt for the
previous 12 months up until this request is answered. My preferred
format to receive this information is electronically either as a
database on disc or via email. Alternatively, I am willing to
inspect the records.

With respect to this request, I ask that you consider the High
Court decision (Corporate Officer of the House of Commons v The
Information Commissioner & Leapman, Brooke, Thomas [2008] EWHC 1084
(Admin) (16 May 2008)) in which the Court ruled that MPs' must
disclose the full details of their Additional Costs Allowance. This
case does not stand alone but is rather the culmination of a
gathering body of case law in which it is accepted that officials
spending the public's money have a responsibility to account for
that expenditure to the public.

I would ask that you remember the Act’s Section 16 duty on public
authorities to provide advice and assistance to requesters. If for
any reason you are leaning toward rejecting any part of this
request or if you plan to argue that it is unmanageable or
unanswerable in any way then I would expect you to contact me
promptly to find ways to answer this request to our mutual
satisfaction.

If FOI requests of a similar nature have already been asked could
you please include your responses to those requests.

I would ask that you release any available data as soon as possible
rather than wait for all available data to be collated before
sending me an answer. I would also be grateful if you could confirm
in writing that you have received this request via this website,
and I look forward to hearing from you within the 20-working day
statutory time period. Regards, Heather Brooke

Dear Ms Brooke

I am writing in response to your request for information dated 24 July
2008. You requested a listing of Adam Crozier’s expenses broken down by
claim and/or receipt for the previous 12 months, up until the date of our
reply to your request. For practical reasons we have compiled relevant
information to the end of July 2008, which is attached in an Annex to this
letter.

Finally, you requested copies of our response to any FOI requests of a
similar nature. We have answered one other request relating to expense
claims made by members of Royal Mail Group’s Executive Team, and I have
attached a full copy of our response to this request. The name and address
of the applicant has been redacted as this information is considered to be
exempt from disclosure under section 40(2) of the Freedom of Information
Act, because releasing this information into the public domain would breach
data protection principles. Section 40 is an absolute exemption in this
respect and the public interest test does not apply.

I hope this information meets your requirements. If for any reason you are
not satisfied with this reply, you do have a right to request an internal
review of the way in which your request has been answered. If you wish to
do so, please write to the Head of Information Compliance at: Company
Secretary's Office, 5th Floor, 148 Old Street, London, EC1V 9HQ.

If, having requested an internal review, you are still not satisfied with
our response you also have a right to appeal to the Information
Commissioner who may be contacted at:

Information Commissioner's Office
Wycliffe House
Water Lane
Wilmslow
Cheshire
SK9 5AF

Yours sincerely
