Dear Greenwich Borough Council,

With reference to the Designated Public Place Order (sometimes
incorrectly called an Alcohol Exclusion Zone) in place in Greenwich
Town Centre.

Would you please be kind enough to provide:

1) The wording of signs placed in and around the zone and the job
title of the person who agreed this wording
2) Any guidance or circular sent to licensees in and around the
area in relation to the DPPO

Yours faithfully,

Colm Howard-Lloyd

Dear Mr Howard-Lloyd

I write with reference to your Request, shown below. Our response
herewith.

The signage content, which covers the whole borough, is as follows:
"Please drink responsibly. Local Authorities (Alcohol Consumption in
Designated Public Place) Regulations 2001. Outside of this licensed
premises, it is an offence to continue to drink alcohol when asked not to
do so by a Police Officer, or to refuse to surrender any alcohol to an
Officer. Failure to comply may lead to arrest. Maximum fine: £500."

This wording was agreed by the Council's Chief Executive, Mary Ney.

Previously, an order was in place which just covered Greenwich Town Centre
and similar signage may still be in situ. Any such remaining older signs
will shortly be replaced with the new standardised borough-wide signs as
described above.

Please also find attached the letters sent to all licensed premises in
Greenwich borough. The first letter was pre order, notifying licensees of
our intent. The second letter was post order, notifying them it was now in
place across the borough and providing them with stickers and posters.

Dear Mr Soskin,

Thank you for your prompt response which is much appreciated.

Can you please advise if the new signs will contain any imagery or
if they are just the words.

Yours faithfully,

Colm Howard-Lloyd

Dear Mr Howard-Lloyd

The new signs are already on display in various locations. They contain
images. I attach a copy of the posters being used.
