16 September 2009

Under the Freedom of Information Act, please can you provide the
answers to the following questions:

1. What is the total number of dentists in your area who have a
contract with the PCT to provide NHS services? How many practices
is this?
2. Please can I have details of the gross income (for the last
financial year 07/08) of each of the practices within your PCT that
provide NHS services?
3. Please also provide the amount claimed in expenses for each
practice according to their self-assessment tax forms for the last
financial year 07/08.
4. Please provide details of how many dentists are employed per
practice.
5. Can you also provide the same detail (including gross income and
expenses) per practice for the year 04/05 - the year before the new
NHS contract was introduced to improve access to dental services?
6. If available, please can I also have the total number of "units"
of dental activity and treatment carried out per practice in the
last financial year 07/08.

Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you

Dear Ms Widdup,

Please find attached and below answers to your request. I hope this now
resolves your query.

1. What is the total number of dentists in your area who have a contract
with the PCT to provide NHS services? How many practices is this?

55 Dental Contracts, 29 Practices

2. Please can I have details of the gross income (for the last financial
year 07/08) of each of the practices within your PCT that provide NHS
services?

We do not hold this information.

3. Please also provide the amount claimed in expenses for each practice
according to their self-assessment tax forms for the last financial year
07/08. We do not have to answer this.

We do not hold this information.

4. Please provide details of how many dentists are employed per practice.

Please see attached list which lists dentists that are on our performers
list. Practices may employ other dentists that do not carry out NHS
treatment.

5. Can you also provide the same detail (including gross income and
expenses) per practice for the year 04/05 - the year before the new NHS
contract was introduced to improve access to dental services?

We do not hold this information. We would only hold what we (the NHS)
would have paid. Also since that period of time, several practices have
closed whilst others have opened in the area.

6. If available, please can I also have the total number of "units" of
dental activity and treatment carried out per practice in the last
financial year 07/08.

303,384 Units of Dental Activity. We do not record the number of
`treatments' carried out.

If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your
request and wish to make a complaint or request a review of our decision,
you should write to: Ms Natalie Potter, Complaints Coordinator, NHS
Hammersmith & Fulham, 1 Hammersmith Broadway, London. W6 9DL

If you are not content with the outcome your complaint, you may apply
directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the
ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the complaints
procedure provided by NHS Hammersmith & Fulham. The Information
Commissioner can be contacted at: The Information Commissioner's Office,
Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF.
