Dear Sir or Madam,Jim Knight, Minister of State, said in a written
answer about the Glenridding Tragedy that the DCSF had drawn the
attention of school staff and their employers to the HSE report on
the tragedy and to its recommendations. Please could I be told
exactly how the DCSF drew the attention of teachers and employers
to this report? Specifically could I have a copy of any letter(s)
that were sent to schools/LAs about the report and the
recommendations that it made.Yours faithfully,Anne Jago

Dear Ms Jago,
Thank you for your email dated 24 June 2008 about the Glenridding Beck
tradgedy.
We have no record of letters to schools or local authorities from the
Department for Children Schools and Families (then Department for
Education and Skills) about the Glenridding Beck tragedy. The
Department publicised the report by featuring it on the front page of
the relevant part of the teachernet website, where we would expect
professionals to seek the current guidance from the Department on such
issues. The information can still be found at
http://www.teachernet.gov.uk/wholeschool...
This web-page also contains a reference to whistle-blowing.
This web-page was publicised in the 9 March 2005 press release from the
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) that can be found at
http://www.hse.gov.uk/press/2005/e05034....
The HSE published its web report into the tragedy on the same date.
This can be found at
http://www.hse.gov.uk/schooltrips/pdf/in...
Local authority Chief Education Officers had previously been advised of
the imminent report by Sue Mulvany, Director of Education, Lancashire
County Council, who wrote to them on 4 March 2005, her letter including
a reference to the HSE website where the report was to appear.
Yours sincerely,
Amanda Thomas
