DCSF Home Education Review 2009 response

Stephen Mckie made this Freedom of Information request to Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council

Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council did not have the information requested.

From: Stephen Mckie

11 May 2009

Dear Sir or Madam,

I request complete copies of the responses made by the Council to
the questionnaires linked to the current DCSF review of Home
Education. There were two such questionnaires: one of six questions
open to all respondents; the second was sixty questions, and sent
only to local education authorities.

I would like to see the full answers given to both questionnaires,
and also to know the name(s) and position(s) of the person or
people who responded to the questionnaires on the council's behalf.

Yours faithfully,

Stephen Mckie

Good Morning,

Thank you for your request below. The 2009 DCSF Review of Home Education
used on-line questionnaires. The Review concluded in April 2009 and the
detail from the questionnaires will inform a report due to be published
this month. Because the questionnaires were completed on line, we did not
need to retain copies of them, so have no information to supply to you.
However, as mentioned above a report will be published shortly by DCSF.

Completing the on-line questionnaires for Wirral was done by Mike Clarke,
Head of Service for Children and Young People's Department. (Participation
& Inclusion Branch - Education Social Welfare). I hope you find this
information of use.

Yours Sincerely

Jane Corrin

Dear Ms Corrin,

I offer my thanks for speedy reply.

It is a shame that no copy of the review response has been held by
the Wirral council as the answers provided would have been useful
in understanding the councils view on home education. My
understanding of the review is that a summary will be supplied to
the public, not the detailed responses. Sadly the information
provided on the council website about home education is limited to
say the least.

I am eager to learn more - As Mr Clarke filled out the review
response do you think he would be willing to entertain some
questions I have? If not, do you know of anyone else who would be
willing to assist me in broadening my knowledge?

Once again, many thanks for your assistance thus far,

Yours sincerely,

Stephen Mckie

Dear Ms Corrin,

further to my last reply - having delved a little into other
council responses, I have been made aware that other councils have
requested a copy of the review from the DCSF, in order to assist
local residents with their questions.

Would Wirral council be willing to do the same?

Yours sincerely,

Stephen Mckie

Good Afternoon
Wirral Council have asked for a copy and we are also currently checking
the website regularly but the report/review is not out as yet. Wirral
Council will certainly be using the documents to inform our policy and
practice.
I hope this assists you with your enquiry.
Kind Regards
Jane Corrin

Dear Ms Corrin,

your efforts in asking for a copy of the review are very much
appreciated. Would you be able to contact me when a reply from the
DCSF if forthcoming?

Also, I note that the council offers a complaints system, but not a
thanks system. Is there one where I might be able to express my
thanks once my FOI request has been concluded.

warmest regards,
Stephen Mckie

Dear Ms Corrin,

in your last correspondence you explained that Wirral Council have
asked for a copy the DCSF Home Education Review 2009 response.

Can you confirm whether that request was rejected or are you now in
a position to supply the review response?

I understand that the Badman review is imminently due, but I still
request Wirral's individual response.

Yours sincerely,

Stephen Mckie

Good Afternoon,
Thank you for your question below. A Council Officer attended a
Behaviour and Attendance Regional Event this week and this issue was
discussed with Officers asking specifically about this issue.

Feedback from the DCSF Regional Advisors was that the report and
guidance are not yet available but are being worked on at the moment.
I hope you find this information of use.
Kind Regards

Dear InfoMgr, FinDMT,

unfortunately no, your email did not help me. Reviewing previous
emails I see where the confusion has arisen.

For clarity, I shall repeat my request as I see it;

Has Wirral council received a copy of Wirral Councils response to
the DCSF Home Education Review 2009?

If not, would you be willing, as other councils have done, to
request that copy from the DCSF?

Yours sincerely,

Stephen Mckie

Good Afternoon,
Thank you for your request for information below. Wirral Council have
not received a copy of their own submission to the DCSF Home Education
Review 2009. The Council has not requested a copy, and does not
intend, at this stage, to request a copy. I hope this clarifies
matters.
Yours Sincerely
