Dear Ms Green,

Re: Freedom of Information - Dangerous Dogs.

Your request for information has now been considered and the information
that you are entitled to under your request is addressed below. Please
note that London Borough Brent tackles issues of Dangerous Dogs in
partnership with The Mayhew Animal Home, The Metropolitan Police Service,
RSPCA and Brent Housing Partnership. The initiative is named BARK (Brent
Action for Responsible K9s.

1. What number of dogs have been seized by the council dog wardens between
01/01/08 and 01/01/09 under section 1 of Dangerous Dogs Act 1991?

The dog wardens have not seized any dogs themselves. The Metropolitan
Police in Brent have the exact figures. The dog wardens provide the
intelligence to the police through the BARK Initiative.

2. What number of those dogs has gone on to be added to the index of
exempted dogs?

Again the Police have these records. However, when we deal with stray dogs
and come across stray pit bull types, whose owners have come forward with
the assistance of the police who have been placed on the index is 9.

3. What number of those dogs has been ordered to be destroyed by court
order?

It is the police who undertake this function. We do not hold this data.

4. What number of those dogs has been signed over for destruction by the
dogs owner.

There have been no dogs signed over by the owners.

5. How many dogs held as strays by your council have been identified as
"pit bull type" and destroyed due to no owner coming forward between
01/01/08 and 01/01/09?

20 dogs destroyed over the period specified above.

6. How many dogs held as potential pit bull types have died or been
destroyed as a result of unknown cause, illness or behavioural issues
whilst in your care between 01/01/08 and 01/01/09?

No dogs have died whilst in our care.

I trust the above answers all the questions you have raised in your
request.
