Dear Lea Adrian,
Thank you for the information provided.
However we specifically requested information on the number of
Jamaican prisoners awarded D category status rather than the number
of black prisoners.
We would be grateful if you would provide us with this specific
information and look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,

Dear Wansbrough Solicitors
Thank you for your query about D Category Prisoners at HMP Erlestoke.
Our records show you asked for "The number of prisoners at HMP Erlestoke who have been awarded D category status within the last 12 months and an indication of how many of those prisoners were of Jamaican origin."
Records of prisoner's specific nationality at a prison are not centrally held so we gave you what data we had about the ethnic background of Prisoners awarded Category D status at HMP Erlestoke in the last 12 months.
Information about the specific nationality of a prisoner would be on their Inmate Core record, however, each and every prisoner record would have to be searched at HMP Erlestoke to ascertain who was granted Category D status in the last 12 months and what their Nationality was.
This would breach the Statutory Cost Limit details of which are below.
Under section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act, the Ministry of Justice is not obliged to comply with any information request where the prescribed costs of supplying you with the information exceeding £600. The £600 limit applies to all central government departments and is based on work being carried out at a rate of £25 per hour, which equates to 3½ days work per request. Prescribed costs include those which cover the cost of locating and retrieving information, and preparing our response to you. They do not include considering whether any information is exempt from disclosure, overheads such as heating or lighting, or disbursements such as photocopying or postage.
Yours sincerely
Adrian Lea
