Dear Sir or Madam,
There are, allegedly, half a million job vacancies currently in the
United Kingdom.
Is this information available in any organised format such as by:
Job Type / Area / Total Vacancies / Avg Salary ect. and if so may I
get a copy of it.
Yours faithfully,
Mr Watts

Dear Mr Watts
Thank you for your email dated 16 January 2009 asking for information
about job vacancies in the UK.
DWP does not hold data about every vacancy in the UK; only jobs which
are advertised through Jobcentre Plus.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) will hold all the information
you require. You should direct your query to them. They publish figures,
collected from a Labour Market Survey, relating to the whole economy
(not all employers use Jobcentre Plus) on their NOMIS website. This
website also includes Jobcentre Plus data which will form a percentage
of the whole.
I have attached a link to the ONS website for ease of reference.

I hope this is helpful.
If you are not satisfied with my handling of your request please tell me
why within two calendar months of the date of this letter. I will then
arrange for someone to conduct an internal review of your request and my
handling. The review will be conducted by another officer, usually of a
more senior grade to me. This person will have taken no part in my
original decision. You will be advised of their decision in writing.
If you are still not content with the outcome of the internal review you
have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner to look
into the way your request has been handled. Please note that generally
the Commissioner cannot make a decision unless you have first exhausted
DWP's own complaints procedure. The Commissioner can be contacted at:

Dear DWP Adelphi Freedom-of-Information-Request,
It was my understanding that the quoted figure was just Job Centre
data not all uk job data which I doubt would be very accurate given
the disparate nature of the data, it’s volatility and reluctance of
some third parties to disclose there data.
Is there a Job Centre breakdown available - again who is looking
for what skills and where and what the remuneration is etc .. This
data is really for job hunting and appraising what skills are
needed and in what part of the country - The TV adverts would lead
us to believe that there’s a national shortage of Driving
Instructors earning £30k plus per annum - I doubt it, as much as I
would doubt the average salary in IT is £37K for someone that has
just completed a short networking course - I am just after real
world figures good or bad with which to try and best make a valued
judgement on which course of action to take when seeking
employment.
Can you help?
Yours sincerely,
Mr Watts

23 February 2009
Dear Mr Watts,
I am writing regarding your request for information, which was received on
25 January 2009. In that request, you asked us for a Jobcentre Plus
breakdown of what employers are looking for with regard to skills and
remuneration. You required this information to help you make a judgment on
which course of action to take when seeking employment.
The information you requested is currently too broad in nature and will
need to be refined to ensure that it does not exceed the disproportionate
cost limits. This is set at £600 for central government departments and
represents 3.5 working days. In order for me to provide help to you could
you let me know which area of the country you are interested in. I can
then see what information is available locally for you.
Please note that if I do not receive appropriate clarification of your
information requirements within three months from the date of this letter,
then I will consider your request closed.
If you wish to discuss any of the above, please contact me. Please
remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.
