Dear Morris, Valerie,

Thank you for your prompt reply.
In the first instance you have requested that I quote a reference
number which you say is stated above, I am afraid that you appear
to have forgotten to include any reference numbers.

Secondly you don't actually say that you will or are going to
address my query, but you do inform me that a fee might be payable,
may I ask what this fee will be for and why would it be necessary
for me to pay a fee for information that by law should be available
to all members of the public.

If your reply is made via a standard response then may I
respectfully suggest that stock replies are sent in accordance with
the query as any other type of reply only serves to cause a certain
amount of frustration and annoyance with the public.

Yours sincerely,

Arthur Robinson

Dear Mr Robinson

Thank you for your letter email dated 14 January 2010 in which you have
requested information on how the Council has improved education standards
in schools, how they have tackled crime and how they have improved waste
collection. Your request was made under the Freedom of Information Act
2000 (FOIA) and we apologise for the delay in replying.

As you may know, the FOIA applies to information held by a public
authority in recorded format. The statements below shows how the council
has improved on the services you have enquired about.

Primary SATS results, published by the Department for Children, Schools
and Families (DCSF), show Croydon making strides in the education of the
Borough's 11 Year olds. Results for the achievement of Level 4 and above
for English remain steady, while Mathematics has increased significantly,
up 2% from last year. Croydon Council has significantly increased
resources to support Primary schools over the last 12 months; its efforts
contributing to this year's results. Croydon is now in line with national
average for both English and Maths.

Secondary GCSE results, show the percentage of Croydon Students gaining
five good (A*-C) GCSEs overall has risen from 64% to 74%. The increase
also puts Croydon schools ahead of the national average attainment figure
of 70% and London average of 71%. Importantly 52% of pupils in Croydon
gained five or more good GCSEs including English and Maths, up nearly 5%
on Croydon's results last year against the national average of 51%.

Attached is information on how the council meets its crime tackling
obligations.

I will provide information about waste collection when it is available to
me.

If you are dissatisfied with the way the department has handled your
request under the Freedom of Information Act you may ask for an internal
review. You can do this by outlining the details of your complaint by
either:

Dear Derby, James,

Thank you for your reply albeit somewhat late.

The information you have provided merely tells me that SATS and
GCSE results in our schools have increased, it does not address my
question.

My question was "How exactly has the Council improved Schools and
Crime and Waste Collection", not how well pupils have done in their
SATS and GCSE's.

You do go on to say that Croydon Council has significantly
increased resources to support Primary schools over the last 12
months, this is exactly the information that I was requesting but
you don't go on to say what resources were put in place, or how
much was spent on these resources.

Can I please have the answer that I requested?

Yours sincerely,

Arthur Robinson

The Tackling Crime document that you have attached and which I have
read carefully again only gives me crime statistics and not how the
council has spent the money on tckling crime.

What resources has the council put in place and how much did it
cost.

Can I please have the answer that I requested?

Yours sincerely,

Arthur Robinson
