Dear Sir / Madam,

Under the Freedom of Information Act, please may I have the
following figures for your council for the years 1998 to the
present day

1) The number of people with criminal convictions employed by
Ashford Borough Council employs

2) The top ten job areas people with criminal convictions are
employed in.

3) The top ten types of conviction employees have.

4) The number of disclosures requested from the CRB.

5) The number of enhanced disclosures requested from the CRB.

6) A list of positions / job titles (or summary of areas of
work)where a CRB check was requested.

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request sent on 13^th October
and please see below information for Ashford Borough Council.

Please note that your request was for information from 1998 to the present
day, however we only have information on record from 2003 and therefore
all answers will be data for 2003 to present day.

Please also note that information includes Ashford Leisure Trust employees
(who have been independent from Ashford Borough Council since September
2007 and Sure Start (which was transferred to Kent County Council from
April 2008)

1) The number of people with criminal convictions employed by Ashford
Borough Council:

- 16 employees (Made up of 9 Ashford Leisure Trust, 2 Sure Start
and 5 Ashford Borough Council) These 16 employees include cautions and
reprimands as well as convictions.

2) The top ten job areas people with criminal convictions are employed
in:

- Fitness Instructors (4)

- Recreation Assistants/Lifeguards (2)

- Creche Assistants (2)

- Volunteers at Sure Start (2)

- Admin Assistants (2)

- Caretaker (1)

- Customer Service Advisor (1)

- Parking Attendant (1)

- Catering Assistant (1)

3) The top ten types of convictions employees have:

- Shoplifting (2 convictions, 2 cautions)

- Affray (3 cautions)

- Criminal Damage (2 convictions, 1 caution)

- Drink Driving (2 convictions)

- Possessing Class B drug (2 convictions)

- Drunk & Disorderly (2 reprimands)

- Possessing Class A drug (1 conviction)

- Drunk in charge of a child (1 caution)

4) The number of disclosures requested from the CRB:

- 602

5) The number of enhanced disclosures requested from the CRB:

- 549 of the 602 total

6) A list of positions / job titles (or summary of work) where a CRB
check was requested:

Ashford Leisure Trust: Recreation Assistant, Lifeguard, Receptionist,
Fitness Instructor, Swimming Instructor, Catering Assistant, Fun Camp
Assistant, Tumble Time Assistant.

Sure Start: Volunteers (working with children), Admin Assistant,
Receptionist, Catering Assistant, Community Development worker, Post & Pre
Natal Health Link worker, Creche Assistant

Ashford Borough Council: Parking Attendant, Housing Officers,
Housekeepers, Scheme Managers,Customer Services Advisors, Mediators,
Football Coach, Caretaker, Fraud Investigations Officer, Revenue &
Benefits Officer, Building Surveyor, Elected Councillors (for shadowing
programme)

I hope this information is useful to you. In addition to your questions,
I can also tell you that a total of 28 disclosures applied for (of 602)
has convictions, but only 16 of the 28 were cleared to work. 12 people
offered employment were not cleared to work and therefore did not commence
employment with us.
