Councillor Hazel Lees - being absent on months long, extended holiday

A Freedom of Information request to Stockport Borough Council by Sheila Oliver

The request was rejected by Stockport Borough Council.

Sheila Oliver

20 January 2010

Dear Stockport Borough Council,

Please may I see any documents that may exist regarding LibDem
Councillor Hazel Lees offering to pay back her allowances for the
months long, extended holiday she had recently? I assume that if
she wasn't here to do her job, then she won't want to accept
payment from the cash-strapped council taxpayers

Yours faithfully,

Sheila Oliver

Dear FOI Officer,

This may be a repeated request, but Stockport Council fails
repeatedly to deal with FOI requests in a timely manner if they
even respond at all, and frequently fail to comply with FOIA and
EIR 2004 legislation. I am happy to provide details of every single
instance of failure on the part of the Council on this website
should you wish. These are all very, very important issues
regarding the safety of children, protection of green chains, waste
of millions and millions of pounds of taxpayers' and council
taxpayers' money and illegal action taken by Executive Councillors
and senior council officers.

Please let me know if you want details of all the Council's FOI
transgressions posting and I would be willing to comply.

Yours sincerely,

Sheila Oliver

Stockport Council sent me this today, for some reason not via this website:-

"Dear Mrs Oliver,

I understand that substitutes have attended Scrutiny Committees in place of Cllr Lees. I also understand that the minutes of these meetings will tell you who attended. If you are interested in a particular meeting, please visit the Online Committee Papers section of the Council website at the link below to search for the relevant documents:

http://www.stockport.gov.uk/services/cou...

In relation to your question about councillors paying back allowances, the response is as previously provided by email on 15th January 2010.

Yours sincerely,

I think the inference from this reply is that there is no evidence that Councillor Lees has offered to reply her councillor's allowances for the very long period of time she was on an extended holiday and not doing the job for which she received said allowances. If I am wrong perhaps Ms Naven could correct this for me.
