Dear Mr Jacobsen,

Thank you for your request for information relating to spend on our IT equipment licences and operating systems. I would like to take this opportunity to apologies for the delay in responding to your request. This was due to City Hall suffereing unprecedented power supply problems that lasted from Sunday 27 April - Thursday 1 May, which resulted in the enforced closure of our offices.

With regard to your requests the responses are set out below:

* How much money has been spent by the GLA for the purchasing of licences for Commercial off-the-shelf desktop software (including but not limited to word processors, spreadsheet software, "Office" - type packages, PDF-generation software, email and calendar software)?

*How much money has been spent by the GLA for purchasing of desktop operating systems (e.g. Mac OS, Microsoft Windows and Linux-based operating systems) - if operating system licences have come bundled with purchased hardware, please list number of licences acquired.

Currently the information you require for the above requests is not collated or stored in a way that makes it easily available and therefore we are currently unable to provide this information. We estimate that it would cost in excess of £675 to provide this information. The rules set out under section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act state that the GLA is not obliged to comply with your request when doing so would exceed the appropriate limit. The appropriate limit has been specified in regulations and for the GLA it is set at £450. This represents the estimated cost of one person spending 2½ working days in determining whether the GLA holds the information, and locating, retrieving and extracting the information. I can however, provide the following figures which detail the total spend on software (including, the purcahse of all types of software including business specfic and customised software, licensing and maintenance costs)
2005/6 £316,523
2006/07 £375,448
